Cast from his home world of Voorl by entities unknown for crimes lost to the aeons, Cthulhu lies imprisoned in the alien, submerged city of R'lyeh, built on Earth solely to contain him. I imagine him in a sort of cryogenic stasis, neither dead nor alive, but still dreaming, still psychically sending out to whomever might hear, to his worshipers, to the unfortunately sensitive. Trapped in this sunken bio-mechanical cell in a sort of ICU psychosis, he waits for the alignment of celestial bodies to trigger tectonic upheaval and bring his prison to the surface where his servants - or unwitting bumblers - may finally free him.
